How often to measure your AI visibility, and how to tell whether your changes work

You have measured whether ChatGPT and Perplexity recommend your company, you have changed your website and you want to know whether it worked. When do you measure again? And how do you know the difference is real?
Why measuring every day makes no sense
AI assistants never answer the same way twice. Ask the same question ten times and sometimes they will name you and sometimes not, even if nothing has changed. Measuring daily mostly shows you that variation, not your progress.
Also, your changes don't reach AI instantly. ChatGPT and Perplexity search the web through their own indexes and search engines such as Bing. A new or rewritten page takes time to be crawled, indexed and used in answers.
When to re-measure
- Measure before changing anything. That is your baseline.
- Make the changes: new pages that answer your customers' questions, a clear description of your company, presence on the directories and media AI relies on.
- Check that search engines have your pages. If Bing hasn't indexed a new page yet, ChatGPT is unlikely to use it.
- Re-measure a few weeks later, with exactly the same questions.
To follow the trend without specific changes, measuring monthly or quarterly is usually enough.
How to tell whether the change is real
Subtracting two percentages isn't enough. If your visibility goes from 61 % to 64 %, it may be an improvement or pure variation. To know, you need two things:
- Compare each question with itself, not the total with the total.
- Compute the margin of the difference. If the change doesn't exceed it, you can't claim you improved (or got worse).
A real example: Futboleras, a women's football platform, went from 64 % to 56 % between two measurements. Compared question by question, the difference was about −9 points with a margin of about ±9 to ±10. It's borderline. Not a clear drop: a signal to watch in the next measurement, not a reason for alarm.
Yovara makes that comparison automatically each time you re-measure and tells you whether the change is clear or within the margin.
What to look at besides the number
- Which questions you appear in now and didn't before. If they are the ones your new pages answer, that's a good sign.
- Whether AI already uses your website as a source, even if it doesn't name you yet. That is often the step before.
- Which assistant moves. ChatGPT and Perplexity don't always change together.
In short
Measure, change, wait a few weeks, check that your pages are indexed and re-measure with the same questions. And don't trust a difference that doesn't exceed the margin.

Frequently asked questions
How often should I measure my company's AI visibility?
After making changes, a few weeks later. To follow the trend without specific changes, monthly or quarterly is usually enough. Measuring daily only shows AI's normal variation.
How do I measure the impact of AI visibility improvements?
By re-measuring with exactly the same questions, comparing each question with its previous result and checking whether the difference exceeds the margin of error.
Can I track AI visibility over time?
Yes, as long as each measurement repeats the same questions. Then every new measurement can be compared with the previous one.
How long until changes on my website show up in AI answers?
Several weeks, as a rough guide. Search engines first have to crawl and index your pages, and then assistants have to start using them in their answers.
